As far as free POS software goes, eHopper is one of the most feature-rich, and with free card processing as an option, it is very affordable. The cloud-based software is easy to set up and begin using. It is best suited to small retail and quick-service restaurants.
Pros:
Out of all the free POS options, eHopper is truly cross-platform. While Square and Loyverse can be used on iOS and Android devices, eHopper can also be used on Windows PC.
eHopper is also more affordable than Square and Loyverse because it offers free card processing, whereas Square charges a 2.6% + $0.10 transaction fee, and Loyverse between 1% and 2.75% depending on the third-party processor one opts for.
Unlike Loyverse, which does not give any hardware away with its free POS, eHopper's POS comes with a free Poynter wireless card reader.
To cancel one's eHopper account is also hassle-free, requiring only that the free card reader be returned in good condition.
Cons:
With Square and Loyverse, there is customer support even for their free POS users. eHopper, however, offers support to its paid-for packages only.
eHopper is not suitable for restaurants that need menu builder or kitchen display features. For those, Loyverse would be the better option.
The platform doesn't offer invoicing, which Square does, and it also has no eCommerce functionality.
eHopper does have impressive customer relationship tools in the free POS but is missing a pivotal one both Square and Loyverse offer users, and that is a built-in loyalty program.
eHopper's free Essential package is limited to one register only.
